Ramadan 2027 is expected from about February 8 to March 9, with Eid al-Fitr around March 10 (dates depend on the moon). Visiting is fine: restaurants in malls and hotels stay open, but don't eat, drink or smoke in public in daytime, dress modestly and expect later opening hours. Iftar is at sunset, around 6:15–6:35pm.

Ramadan etiquette for visitors

  • Eat and drink discreetly in daytime. Use restaurants and cafés rather than eating on the street, in taxis or on the Metro.
  • Dress modestly in public. Shoulders and knees covered in malls, souks and mosques.
  • Keep the volume down. No loud music in public, and avoid public displays of affection.
  • Join an iftar. Hotels and restaurants serve iftar buffets at sunset, and Ramadan tents run late into the night.
  • Say "Ramadan Kareem" — a friendly greeting during the month.
